Size Comparison. One of the easiest ways to differentiate between baby goldfish and baby koi is by comparing their sizes. Goldfish typically have a smaller size than koi when they are young. Baby goldfish usually measure around 1 to 2 inches in length, while baby koi can grow up to 3 or 4 inches in size during their early stages.
However, the Shubunkins are Calico Goldfish; they possess nacreous scales (an intermediate between metallic and transparent scales that are pearly in appearance). The overlapping patches of red, white, blue, grey and black (along with dark speckles) normally extend to the finnage of Shubunkins. Blue is the most prized color in Shubunkin Goldfish.

I have had Orfe in my pond for about 12 years. For the past 7 days my Orfe are not coming up to eat pellets. All of my other species of fish including carp, goldfish, tench, koi and Shubunkin are continuing to eat. I have tested my pond water to find ammonia and nitrite at 0 ppm, nitrate at 10 ppm and pH at 8.0.
However, no koi fish possesses such a feature. The biggest noticeable difference between these two fish is their size. The normal koi fish grows 22 to 25 inches long but may grow over four feet long. Goldfish typically grow to be around four inches long, but if given ample space, they can reach about one foot long.
